Uploaders

Connect the screenshot and upload tools you already use to your Stavo server. Free, no app needed.

An uploader is a screenshot or upload tool you connect to your server: ShareX on Windows, Flameshot or Spectacle on Linux, the built-in screenshot tool on a Mac, Shortcuts on an iPhone, and anything that can send a web request. You take a screenshot, it uploads, and the link is on your clipboard.

Uploaders are free. They don't need a Stavo app license and never use a seat. Only Stavo's own Mac and iPhone apps are licensed.

How tokens work

Each uploader gets its own token, starting with stu_. It can upload files and, if you turn it on, shorten links. That's all: it can't list or read your Drive, change or delete other files, or sign in anywhere. If a laptop gets lost, the worst a token can do is upload.

  • Make one uploader per device or tool, like "ShareX on Gaming PC" and "iPhone". The list shows when and from where each one was last used, and how many files it sent.
  • Remove an uploader and its token stops working right away. Files it uploaded stay in your Drive.
  • Your server shows the token once, right after you make the uploader. Need the config again later? Get a new token on the uploader's page: the old token stops working, so update every place that used it.
  • Each token can send 60 requests a minute. That's plenty for screenshots and stops a stuck script from flooding you.

Where files go and who can open them

Uploads land in My Drive / Screenshots unless you pick another folder. The folder is made the first time it's needed.

Visibility starts at your account default (unlisted unless you changed it in Settings): anyone with the link can open it, nobody can find it otherwise. Set an uploader to private to keep everything to yourself, or public to show uploads on your profile.

Page links and direct links

  • Page link (https://drive.example.com/aB3xK9q): the file on a clean page with download and details. Discord, Slack, iMessage and others show a proper preview. Best for sharing.
  • Direct link (https://drive.example.com/aB3xK9q.png): the file itself. Use it in forums, Markdown and <img> tags.

If your server has a separate short address for share links, you can pick it per uploader. Every upload answer has both kinds of link (url, page_url, direct_url), so scripts can use either.

Deleting an upload

Every upload comes with a delete link. Opening it shows a confirm page first, so a link preview can never delete anything. You can also delete from your Drive as usual.

Big files and Cloudflare Tunnel

Screenshot tools send each file in one request. If your server is behind a Cloudflare Tunnel, Cloudflare stops requests over 100 MB before they reach your server, so big screen recordings fail with a 413 from Cloudflare.

  • Upload big files with the web app or the Stavo apps instead. They send files in pieces, so the limit doesn't apply.
  • Cloudflare's limit depends on the plan: 100 MB on Free and Pro, 200 MB on Business, and Enterprise can raise it in the zone's Network settings.
  • On your home network you can point the tool at the server's local address, which skips Cloudflare entirely.

The server's own limit is MAX_UPLOAD_MB (2 GB by default). Over that, the answer is a 413 with the limit in it.

Images are kept as they are

Files are stored exactly as sent, the same as every other upload. Screenshots don't carry a location, but photos from a phone can: if you share camera photos through an uploader, remove the location on the phone first.
