Assistant and AI

The Assistant works on your files, notes, docs and sheets with your own permissions. You choose the AI and bring your own key, so you pay your provider directly and we never see any of it.

Add a provider

The server owner picks a default in Dashboard → Instance → Assistant. Anyone can add their own in Profile → Assistant, which wins for them.

ProviderWhat you need
Claude (Anthropic), recommendedAn API key from console.anthropic.com
OpenAIAn API key from platform.openai.com
Google GeminiAn API key from Google AI Studio
OllamaOllama running somewhere your server can reach. No key, fully local.
Anything OpenAI-compatibleLM Studio, OpenRouter, Groq, vLLM and friends: a base URL, and a key if it asks for one

Keys are stored encrypted on your server and never shown again. The owner can set a monthly spending limit per person. Small local models are fine for questions and summaries, but weaker at multi-step edits.

Using it

  • It's in Code, Notes, the command bar (⌘K) and the Mac, iPhone and iPad apps.
  • Type @ to mention files, folders and notes. It can only see things you can open, and never the Vault.
  • Type / for commands: /summarize, /fix-typos, /tidy, /find, /translate, /new-doc, /explain. Save your own in Profile → Assistant; the owner can add some for everyone.
  • Edits wait for your review. You accept or reject each change, or turn on auto-apply for a chat. Moving to trash and running commands always ask first unless you allow them.
  • On iPhone, iPad and the Mac, the Share menu has "Ask Assistant" for whatever you're looking at.

Claude Desktop, Claude Code and MCP

Your server also runs an MCP server, so Claude Desktop, Claude Code and claude.ai can work with your files directly. Find the address and copy-paste setup in Dashboard → Apps & tokens → Claude & MCP. For Claude Code it's one line:

shell
claude mcp add --transport http stavo https://drive.example.com/mcp

You approve what it may do (read, write, run commands) and can disconnect it any time. claude.ai needs your server on a public HTTPS address.
