Why Stavo

Your own cloud. Built to last.

Trusting software with your files and photos is a big ask. Here is what Stavo is, who builds it, and the promises that come with it.

  • Your own cloudFiles, photos, notes, passwords, mail, calendar and contacts, on hardware you own.
  • Lean by designDrive is the core. Turn off Photos or Notes, add extensions when you want them.
  • Free, and staying freeThe server, the web app and our extensions cost nothing. Only the native apps are paid, once.
  • The source pledgeIf Stavo is ever abandoned, the source is released as open source.

Your own cloud

Everything you keep in the cloud. At home.

Your files, photos, notes, passwords, mail, calendar and contacts, on a box you own and your own domain. Invite your family and friends, and everyone gets their own space.

  • Drive with docs, sheets, slides, sharing, sync and a Vault
  • Photo backup from your phone, in full quality
  • Notes, Passwords, Mail, Calendar and Contacts
  • One login and one backup, on your own hardware
The Stavo app launcher open over the dashboard, with every app on the server in one grid.
Your apps, one launcher, one login.

Lean by design

Drive is the core. The rest is your call.

Drive is always on. Everything else is something you choose. Photos and Notes come switched on, and you can switch them off. Passwords, Mail and the rest are extensions you add when you want them.

What you turn off is gone from the menus and stops running. Your server only does the work you asked for.

Who builds it

Made by someone who uses it every day.

Stavo is my main app. I use it every day, for nearly everything: my files, my photos, my notes, my passwords and my mail.

Every feature in it was made for me, for my friends and family, or because someone using Stavo asked for it. Nothing is there to fill a feature list.

I'll keep supporting it for as long as I can, because I depend on it too. When something breaks, it breaks for me first, and I fix it.

The long run

Promises you can hold us to.

Software you trust with your life's files should come with real commitments. These are ours.

The source pledge

Stavo isn't open source today. For software you trust with your files, that's a fair thing to worry about. So here is a public promise.

If Stavo is ever abandoned, its source code will be released under an open source license: the server, the web app, the official extensions and the Mac and iPhone apps. Then anyone can keep it running, fix it and build on it.

Abandoned means something you can check: no new Stavo release for 12 months, and no announced plan for what comes next. If both are true, the source goes out.

The source may also open up sooner, whenever we decide the time is right. This promise doesn't expire, and it stays on this page.

Supported for the long runIts maker runs his own life on Stavo, so it keeps getting updates for as long as he can. Features people ask for ship in 1.x.
The marketplace can't be taken awaySideloading is part of Stavo: you can install an extension from a file, no marketplace needed. If the marketplace ever went away, your extensions would still install.
Your server never needs usThe server runs without a key and without this site. If NullDaily disappeared tomorrow, your files, photos and notes would still be right there.

Your data

Yours, wherever it goes.

Stavo is software for your own box. There is no Stavo cloud holding your things.

Your hardwareFiles, photos and passwords live on your machine and never touch our servers.
Export everythingDownload it all in open formats: DOCX, XLSX, Markdown, CSV and your original photos.
Move server to serverSign in to your old server from the new one and everything comes over: files, photos, notes, the Vault and your links.

Fair questions.

All questions

Why Stavo instead of a hosted cloud?

Because your files, photos, notes, passwords, mail, calendar and contacts can live on hardware you own, on your own domain, for free. Nobody scans them, nobody raises the price, and nobody can switch them off. Your family and friends get their own space on your server.

Will it run a lot of things I never use?

No. Drive is the core and always on. Everything else is your choice: turn off Photos or Notes, and add extensions like Passwords or Mail only when you want them. What's off is gone from the menus and stops running.

Who makes Stavo, and why?

One developer at NullDaily, who uses Stavo every day as his main app. Every feature was made for him, for his friends and family, or because someone using Stavo asked for it. He depends on it too, so it gets fixed and kept up.

Will Stavo still be around in a few years?

It's supported for as long as its maker can, and he runs his own life on it. If it's ever abandoned, the source pledge kicks in: the source code is released as open source. And your server never needs us to run, so nothing you have stops working.

Is Stavo open source?

Not today. But there's a public promise: if Stavo is ever abandoned, its source code is released under an open source license: the server, the web app, the official extensions and the apps. Abandoned means no new Stavo release for 12 months, and no announced plan for what comes next. It may also open up sooner, whenever we decide to.

What if the marketplace goes away?

Your extensions keep working. Sideloading is part of Stavo, so you can always install an extension from a file without the marketplace. The marketplace is a convenience, never a gate.

Why are the apps paid when everything else is free?

Native apps cost real money to ship: developer program fees, certificates, code signing and distribution. The app license covers that, once, never a subscription. The server, the web app, every official extension and Passwords everywhere stay free.

Can I use Stavo for my business?

Stavo is free for personal, family and community use: you, your household, your friends, your club. If you sell hosting as a business, it's fair to pay for the tool you earn with, so that gets its own product, coming from NullDaily.

Who owns my data?

You do. It lives on your hardware and never touches our servers. Export everything in open formats any time, or move to another Stavo server in one go.

Bring your cloud home.

Your files, photos and notes, and everything else you run, on hardware you own. The server is free. The apps are coming soon.
